http://www.euronews.com/ Small farmers have protested outside the European Parliament to call for a bigger share of EU agricultural funds.
They staged the demonstrations in Strasbourg as MEPs prepare to vote on reforming farming subsidies.
Bernard Pignon, a French farmer, said thousands of his colleagues in Germany and France were quitting the industry each year.
“We, the small farmers, get 20 percent of EU money. 80 percent goes to big agricultural groups.”
The European Commission wants to cap funding for any individual farm at €300,000, but small farmers say that figure should be much lower.
Green MEP Nikos Chrysogelos said: “The majority of the farmers get 2,000 to 15,000 euros. So, the money should really go to the small and medium farmers and not to the few ones which are mainly big industries and companies.”
Jose Bové, the anti-globalisation protester turned Green MEP, said his political party would name and shame fellow deputies who are perceived to vote in favour of big business.
“What the people are waiting for and the big majority in Europe is to have a fair trade and agriculture and a greening of agriculture,” he told euronews.
“So, this is the beginning. And if the Parliament doesn’t vote correctly, we are going to give the name of all the deputies that are going to vote against the wishes of most of the people in Europe.”
MEPs will decide tomorrow on the Commission’s ‘greening plan, which would make a third of EU farm funds dependent on farmers meeting certain environmental criteria.

Top 10 Amazing Facts About Australian Cattle Dog – Blue Heeler
http://bit.ly/WeirdNWonderfulVideos
The australian cattle dog breed is an extremely intelligent, active, and sturdy dog breed.
Developed by Australian settlers to handle herds of cattle on expansive ranches, blue heeler puppies are still used today as a herding dog. australian cattle dog puppies thrive on having a job to do and on being part of all family activities. He is loyal and protective of his family, though wary of outsiders. Besides herding work, the Australian Cattle dog does well at canine sports, including agility, obedience, rally, flyball, and flying disc competitions
You might be familiar with this breed by one of his other common names: Australian Heeler, Blue Heeler, Queensland Heeler, or Halls Heeler. Officially, however, he’s the Australian Cattle Dog ;australian cattle dog blue heeler, the “heeler” moniker comes from the fact that the dogs were bred to herd cattle by nipping at their heels.
australian cattle dogs are high-energy working dog. He is not a couch potato — we repeat: he is not a couch potato. He wants to be active and busy most of the time. His energy must be directed, or he’ll become bored and will resort to entertaining himself, usually by doing something you consider naughty, like digging in the trash or digging up your flower garden.
The australian cattle dog breed is also highly devoted to his owner and family. He usually attaches himself closely to one person and bonds less closely with others. He’s often called a “Velcro” dog because he attaches so firmly; he likes to be in close physical contact with his chosen person all the time.
Because the australian cattle dog was bred to herd, and herd with force, by biting, he is a mouthy dog. His instinct is to nip cattle, children, pets, cars, anything that moves. He has a strong tendency to bite, even in play. This tendency must be properly directed with socialization and training when he’s a puppy, or it can turn into dangerous behavior.
Another part of the breed’s instinct is his strong prey drive. He’s fascinated by squirrels, cats, and other small animals. If the Australian Cattle Dog is raised from puppyhood with other pets, including cats, he can be trusted to live peacefully with them in his home. He’s likely to consider those outside his household to be fair game, though.
The Australian Cattle Dog is generally friendly, but he is protective of his family and home turf, and he tends to be wary of strangers.
There is a toughness about the Australian Cattle Dog — he had to be tough to handle the high temperatures, rough terrain, and long distances involved in his job on ranches — that makes him both highly tolerant of pain and intensely focused. He’ll keep working even when he’s injured. Owners must pay careful attention to this breed to make sure he stops working or competing if he gets hurt.

Fourth-generation drover, Robert Groth, speaks about the Travelling Stock Routes of NSW. He tells us about their importance to him, the people of NSW and our unique wildlife, and gives us his vision of the future.
The Travelling Stock Route (TSR) Network of NSW (and its corresponding network of stock routes in Queensland) is a globally unique Australian treasure. It is a network of around 600 000 ha of public land in NSW, which was established in the 1800s to allow drovers to move livestock across the state. As well as its original use for stock, the network is very important environmentally and culturally, and provides sustainable recreational opportunities for the public.
The National Parks Association of NSW (NPA) has been lobbying and working for nearly 50 years to ensure that the Travelling Stock Routes remain in public hands, and are well managed in a way that protects their diverse range of environmental, cultural, social and economic values.
NPA believes that it’s important for as many people as possible to hear about the TSRs and their many values, so we’re creating “Tales from the TSRs”, a series of articles, interviews, photographic essays and online videos that look at the TSRs through the eyes of those who depend on the network for their livelihoods, spiritual nourishment or simply for the love of the outdoors or wetting a line.”Taking Stock- the Drover’s Story” is the first in this series.
Interview conducted by James Tremain. Videography and editing by John Merkel.

Triticum ingressus
Common New Wheat
Just in time for the transgenic food revolution, the patented Triticum ingressus or “Coming Out Wheat” is leading an all out campaign in the bioengineering battle for the soul of America and the world’s food supply. This new grain has zero natural competitors and even produces a bacterium that is nonselective in killing insects. Plantbot Genetics has further improved this new wheat variety to suit America’s appetite for processed food — the germ and bran of this wheat is pre-bleached and free of vitamins and nutrients! Wheat is the world’s chief whole grain, consumed by billions of people daily. It is time for our bread, pasta, noodles, and baked goods to incorporate Triticum ingressus. Soon conventional wheat in America will be supplanted allowing for increased sales and production of chemical suppressants, insecticides and fertilizers necessary for this crop. It is a good day when the traditional Staff of Life that has sustained our ancestors for generations becomes history and the new can proudly sing about what’s coming out!
