This is a camphor laurel, which is a declared noxious weed here in Queensland. They take over the habitat, inhibiting the growth of native trees, and depriving wildlife of food. They spread quickly, and have invasive roots that deplete the soil of water and nutrients that could be feeding native plants. We will now be able to plant something more appropriate.
