I needed a How-to DIY and couldn’t find one, so I made this one. Replacing the water pump on the International Harvester 244 tractor. This is an old mid-80’s international and I believe the engine was built by Mitsubishi. I have never changed a water pump but I was able to do it with relative ease and no real problems or set-backs. I located a rebuilt / refurbished pump on ebay for under 0 and it works great.
I had noticed that the tractor was overheating after about 15-20 minutes of cutting tall grass. I cleaned the radiator exterior carefully (without damaging the fins) with a pressure washer. I cleaned the filter, drained and flushed the radiator, tested the thermostat and still it was overheating. Finally I removed the water pump and realized that the bearings were worn down so I replaced it as well as the gasket and back plate.
