Mitchell Stover is an undergraduate studying a crop called sweet sorghum, a potential source of ethanol, as opposed to corn. His research at the University of Arizona focused on water stress (how plants deal when only given access to extremely limited amounts of water), and since droughts have destroyed corn crops across the Midwest of the United States, the results of his research have significant implications for farmers and the crops they choose to grow in the future.

In Tanzania, the UN’s International Atomic Energy Agency, IAEA, through its technical cooperation programme and partnership with the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization, FAO, is supporting has a nuclear technique which helps to detect if the insemination process has been successful at an early stage.
