This two-day paediatric first aid course meets the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage Statutory Framework.
It focuses on emergency scenarios faced by professionals, including teachers, child minders and pre-school leaders looking after young children. It meets Ofsted requirements for registered child minders and the requirements for nannies under the DfES Approved Carer Scheme. It can also be used as evidence for employees working towards an NVQ in Childcare and Education.
Who should attend?
Ideal for people working with young children (up to eight years old) or those working towards an NVQ in Childcare/Education.
This course includes
Assessing the situation and circumstances in order to act safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency.
Administering first aid to a casualty who is unconscious (including seizure), choking, wounded, bleeding or suffering from shock.
Recognising signs and symptoms of anaphylactic shock and how to administer first aid, including the use of the epi-pen.
Basic Life Support – Cardio pulmonary resuscitation (adult, child, infant).
Being able to carry out secondary surveys and placing the casualty in the recovery position.
Recognising the presence of major illness and providing appropriate first aid, including head injuries, epilepsy, asthma, diabetes.
Being able to recognise some of the common childhood ailments and illnesses and being able to deal with them, including croup, asthma and febrile convulsions.
Requirements of a First Aid Box.
Administration of medicines.
Assessment
Candidates are assessed by South Central Ambulance Service NHS Trust (SCAS) trainers continuously throughout the course.
Certification
Successful participants will receive a certificate accredited by AoFAQ,QCF and OfQUAL and is Valid for three years.
