Bushcraft Camping Part 4, Scary Abandoned Roads in Dense Bush

Description given on Youtube:
Hiking on an abandoned and unmaintained road in Australia, some people consider this to be very scary. Many roads have been abandoned due to lack of interest, lack of resources and often because the government is trying to restrict access to certain areas of bushland. But you never know, it might be an abandoned road because of some unsolved axe-murder that occurred JUST KIDDING

These abandoned roads are very interesting to hike on because you have the whole trail to yourself! For the first few kilometres the road in the video was easy to follow but eventually it completely disappeared and we were literally just bush bashing. After 2 kilometres of bush bashing we reached another bush track which led us to the more open road that you see us camped on 🙂 We use a GPS, paper map and compass to navigate these trails and roads. Unfortunately the maps are often inaccurate and quite old, the roads are sometimes in different positions due to bush fires (wild fire). After a big bushfire the track repair workers may be forced to rebuild the roads ‘close-by’ rather than exactly where they previously were; sounds sketchy? LOL Without knowledge of navigation one could easily get lost on these abandoned roads.
