How to track, and find a electrical short in your car or truck. This will show you how to find what is draining your battery when your vehicle is off. You can use a test lamp, or a multi-meter. This way you can know where to look. An electrical short can be the cause of a dying battery in a few days or a few hours.
This method helps you find the problem but does not always tell you exactly what it is. For example there may be a fuse for the ignition circuit. If this is drawing a few amps and the vehicle isn’t running then this is your problem but the ignition circuit can include many other devices such as the ignition switch, injectors, fuel pump and more. You may need to further track the problem but you will at least know where to look now.
Don’t assume you have an electrical short immediately. Many times, the battery gets old and starts losing the ability to store a charge. Many auto parts stores can test the battery to see if it is still good for free.
