Many areas in west Texas area do not have Internet access.
That’s why a statewide map has been created to find those areas and hopefully make broadband service available to everyone.
Abigail Prichard’s job as a Ward County extension agent revolves around communication.
“You can use it to communicate with people in you business you can use it to communicate with your family with your friends”
She says sometimes trying to communicate with “all” her coworkers can be a difficult task, because some live in areas that do not provide an Internet service.
“That’s the things about not having the availability of it, it’s not a choice you can make”
Many people in rural areas with out broadband access find themselves at the Ward County Library. Librarians say it gets packed with people needing a computer.
“Quite often they’re here for the connection the internet connection,” Librarian Bonnie Moore said.
In an effort to close the digital divide, the state with the use of stimulus funds, launched the Texas Broadband Map.
The map on connectedtx.org pinpoints areas with no access to home broadband service.
“To me it’s a tool it’s something I can use when I have the need,” Moore said.
A representative of the website says most of the areas without service are in rural regions of the state, hindering their opportunities for business development, access to high education and even ordering medicine. The mapping service will allow service providers to target future investments.
“It’s a very fast access to information,” Moore said.
The public can also use the map to compare prices through direct links to service areas.
The state asks you to review the map at connectedtx.org and help with the accuracy of their data to better help your community.

Many of those living with HIV / aids in rural Uganda are also diagnosed with depression. But whilst their physical conditions get treated, their mental health conditions too often get ignored.
Etheldreda Nakimuli-Mpungu is changing this, training health staff to deliver group psychotherapy in isolated communities to patients living with HIV/aids. And testing out different ways to improve its effectiveness.

In “Undeniable: Evolution and the Science of Creation”, Bill Nye urged caution about GMOs. But recently, Bill Nye famously changed his mind about GMOs. Now, as Bill explains to Chuck Nice, by using GMOs we’ll be able to raise more food on less land and feed more people. In this video, Bill talks about the science behind his reversal. You’ll hear about glyphosate, Shikimic acid pathway, Round-Up Ready® soybeans, corn, cotton, pigweed, and of course, the “be-hated Monsanto.”
This “Behind the Scenes” video was shot during the recording of our episode, ” Cosmic Queries: GMOs with Bill Nye (Part 1).” If you’d like to listen to the full podcast, click here: http://www.startalkradio.net/show/cosmic-queries-gmos-with-bill-nye-part-1/

Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) appeared on Meet the Press on Sunday to debate former television host Bill Nye about the effects of climate change and how best to address those impacts through public policy.
Blackburn spent much of the interview debating Meet the Press host David Gregory who asked a series of pointed questions which challenged her underlying assumptions.
Gregory began by citing a post in The Atlantic which summarized the Republican position on man-made global warming as acknowledging it exists but being wary of the proposed remedies which would negatively impact economic growth. “The fix can be very expensive in the short-term for long-term gain,” Gregory said.
Blackburn countered by asserting that “there is not consensus” that a slight increase in carbon in the atmosphere has resulted in widespread environmental effects. She cited a series of academic reports that challenge the notion of consensus.
