Plant biology on Khan Academy: Plants may seem less interactive than animals. But they actually have many ways of responding to their environment, changing their growth or physiology to make the best use of available resources. Learn more about plants and their response to environmental cues.

About Khan Academy: Khan Academy offers practice exercises, instructional videos, and a personalized learning dashboard that empower learners to study at their own pace in and outside of the classroom. We tackle math, science, computer programming, history, art history, economics, and more. Our math missions guide learners from kindergarten to calculus using state-of-the-art, adaptive technology that identifies strengths and learning gaps. We’ve also partnered with institutions like NASA, The Museum of Modern Art, The California Academy of Sciences, and MIT to offer specialized content.

International Market influence on Grain Prices in India

April 6, 2017 By Editor

Description given on Youtube:
Daal Importer Sunil Baldeva says – Most of the grains are imported from Canada, Australia, America, Burma, Maxico, Brazil and other countries in India. If productivity decreases in these grain producer countries, it influences the prices in India also.

Jessica Rutkoski – Genomic Selection for Rust Resistance in Wheat, Challenges for Mainstreaming GS

March 24, 2017 By Editor

Description given on Youtube:
Gain from genomic selection (GS) for quantitative stem rust resistance in wheat, and challenges for mainstreaming GS in a large-scale wheat breeding program.

Genomic selection (GS) could increase rates of genetic gain for quantitative traits by enabling a reduction in the breeding cycle duration, an increase in the selection intensity, and/or an increase in selection accuracy. We implemented GS and phenotypic selection for quantitative stem rust resistance in wheat and compared the outcomes in terms of genetic gain and changes in inbreeding and genetic variance. We found that while GS and PS lead to equal rates of short-term gain, GS reduced genetic variance more rapidly. The implications of these results for breeding are discussed. In addition, opportunities and challenges for mainstreaming GS for multiple traits in the CIMMYT wheat breeding program are outlined, especially in light of high-throughput phenotyping based approaches for increasing genetic gain.
