I was barrelling along in Milo and noticed this rattle and vibration coming from the drivetrain – yeah I know there are a lot of rattles and vibrations to chose from in Milo. When we looked underneath it was clear that the uni joint had given up. Fortunately we were able to find some help at the nearby Aboriginal community. This video outlines how to make natural cordage using various parts of the Cabbage Tree Palm (Livistona australis). It details how to harvest and process the leaf fronds, leaf stems and the trunk fiber so that they can be turned into cordage using the twisting method and the rolling method. How to add in new fibres is also shown.

The video is presented by Gordon Dedman, founder of Bushcraft Survival Australia (BSA). Gordon has travelled extensively and completed numerous Survival and Bushcraft Courses worldwide at schools run by Ray Mears, Dave Canterbury, Lofty Wiseman and Bob Cooper.

Gordon is a former member of the Australian Army 1st Commando Regiment and is presently attached to NORFORCE, an Australian Army Reserve Regional Force Surveillance unit (RFSU).

NORFORCE conducts patrols in the remote areas of Northern Australia, working closely with Aboriginal communities.

Man Sets Up His Own 4G Antennae, In Order To Get Broadband To His Remote Farm

Living on a farm nestled in a remote area of Salisbury Plain, Richard Guy had battled for years with an unbearably slow internet signal. But the 60-year-old farmer decided enough was enough and resolved to take on telecoms giant BT and find an alternative source. Mr Guy noticed that his mobile phone’s 4G signal – a wireless internet connection – was significantly faster than the broadband link provided by BT to his home, but he needed to find a way to route the signal to his farmhouse. So the savvy father-of-two built his own makeshift wooden telephone mast, on which he set up a 4G adaptor inside a toolbox.
