Camped next to a pristine creek in the mountains in Australia. We are cooking over a small controlled campfire using a small piece of foil to reflect maximum heat back upwards. We have a single fresh water crayfish trap in the creek but unfortunately we catch nothing LOL.

You may notice we’ve recently uploaded some videos of 4WD car camping but without a doubt backpacking with a tent is our favourite style of camping.

In Late May, the DOT proposed a rule change for farm equipment, and if it this allowed to take effect, it will place significant regulatory pressure on small farms and family farms all across America — costing them thousands of dollars and possibly forcing many of them out of business. The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), part of the Department of Transportation (DOT), wants new standards that would require all farmers and everyone on the farm to obtain a CDL (Commercial Drivers License) in order to operate any farming equipment. The agency is going to accomplish this by reclassifying all farm vehicles and implements as Commercial Motor Vehicles (CMVs).
(It is also important to note here that DOT Secretary Ray LaHood holds a seat on the newly created White House Rural Council. A powerful group whose members have ties to George Soros and The Center For American Progress.)
The move by the DOT appears to be “legislation through regulation.” By reclassifying all farm vehicles and implements as Commercial Vehicles, the federal government will now be able to claim regulatory control over the estimated 800,000 farm workers in America, at the same time, overriding the rights of the states.
The proposed change also means ANYONE driving a tractor or operating any piece of motorized farming equipment would be forced to pass the same rigorous tests and fill out the same detailed forms and diaries required of semi-tractor trailer drivers. This reclassification would bury small farms and family farms in regulation and paperwork.

Is there anything more southern than a batch of homemade Angel Biscuits? I don’t think so! 🙂 here I show you a slight variation on a traditional southern biscuit. I am including 2 recipes for Angel Biscuits.
My grandmother’s were just wonderful and seemed to be a little more dense and flatter then the SL recipe. I enjoy both! It depends on my mood, haha.

Preheat your oven to 425°F.
I like to use bread flour.

To print, highlight with your cursor, right click and select “print”. You can also select copy and paste them to your favorite word program on your computer. Here are the measurements:

Mamaw’s Angel biscuits
5 All Purpose Bread Flour, sifted
1/3 Cup Sugar
1 t Soda
2 t Salt
3 t Baking Powder
1 Package Dry Active Yeast
1/4 Cup Warm Water
1 1/2 Cups Buttermilk
1 Cup Shortening
1/4 Cup Melted Salted Butter

Southern Living Recipe
1/2 Cup Warm Water
1 (1/4 oz.) Dry Active Yeast
1 t Sugar
5 Cups Flour (I altered the recipe and am using bread flour)
3 T Sugar
5 t Baking Powder
1 1/2 tsp. Salt
1 tsp. Baking Soda
1/2 Cup Cold butter
1/2 Cup Shortening
2 Cups Buttermilk
1/4 Cup Melted Salted Butter

Mechanism of The Seasons

The seasons result from the Earth’s axis being tilted to its orbital plane; it deviates by an angle of approximately 23.5 degrees. Thus, at any given time during summer or winter, one part of the planet is more directly exposed to the rays of the Sun. This exposure alternates as the Earth revolves in its orbit. Therefore, at any given time, regardless of season, the northern and southern hemispheres experience opposite seasons.
The effect of axis tilt is observable from the change in day length, and altitude of the Sun at noon (the culmination of the Sun), during a year.
Seasonal weather differences between hemispheres are further caused by the elliptical orbit of Earth. Earth reaches perihelion (the point in its orbit closest to the Sun) in January, and it reaches aphelion (farthest point from the Sun) in July. Even though the effect this has on Earth’s seasons is minor, it does noticeably soften the northern hemisphere’s winters and summers. In the southern hemisphere, the opposite effect is observed.

Seasons result from the yearly revolution of the Earth around the Sun and the tilt of the Earth’s axis relative to the plane of revolution. In temperate and polar regions, the seasons are marked by changes in the intensity of sunlight that reaches the Earth’s surface, variations of which may cause animals to go into hibernation or to migrate, and plants to be dormant.
During May, June and July, the northern hemisphere is exposed to more direct sunlight because the hemisphere faces the sun. The same is true of the southern hemisphere in November, December and January. It is the tilt of the Earth that causes the Sun to be higher in the sky during the summer months which increases the solar flux. However, due to seasonal lag, June, July and August are the hottest months in the northern hemisphere and December, January and February are the hottest months in the southern hemisphere.

Solar Powered Remote Area Internet – Australia, Central Desert, Near Uluru

Heya team – just returned from the Central Desert in the ‘dead centre’ of Australia – My Father Gary and I have just finished (over 5 weeks) installing 6 solar powered ‘microwave relays’ with the aim of getting broadband internet to two very remote Aboriginal Communities as a ‘proof of concept’ of the work that I’ve done producing embedded systems to allow ultra-reliable internet into these kinds of remote areas. This should give you an idea of the challenge 🙂 Looks to have been a great success – fully redundant communications with an aggregate bandwidth of 300mbps++ over a distance of 200kms. I used Victron Gear, coupled with my Arduino Based Embedded Control Software, for the solar. Temps out here get in excess of 45 degrees Celcius regularly during the summer and below 0 in the winter – we’ll see how they go! (By the way, I took this footage using a DJI phantom drone – I’m not the best pilot, but you get the picture – we hauled all the gear required to make this tower in by hand over 3 days)
