Agriculture in Israel is a highly developed industry: Israel is a major exporter of fresh produce and a world-leader in agricultural technologies despite the fact that the geography of Israel is not naturally conducive to agriculture. More than half of the land area is desert, and the climate and lack of water resources do not favor farming. Only 20% of the land area is naturally arable.

To reach 12,000 litres of milk a year, double the Australian average for each cow, requires getting the cow in calf just at the right time.

As an indication of how the world is watching Israel’s dairy progress, China’s huge Bright Foods bought Israel’s largest dairy company for over a billion dollars this year.

The Israeli dairy industry uses desalinated water, and dairy waste is equivalent to that of six million people.

New DVDs aimed at two specific age groups were produced as part of HSENI’s ‘Be Aware Kids — Child Safety on Farms Campaign’, – ‘Dangerous Playgrounds’ for four to eight year olds and ‘Farm Safe’ for eight to 11 year olds.

Both DVDs were filmed on location at farms in Northern Ireland and feature pupils from Eglinton Primary School.

Nasa warns US of ‘the arrival of steady, heavy rains and snowfall.’ In the United States El Niño’s biggest impacts are expected in early 2016. The current strong El Niño brewing in the Pacific Ocean shows no signs of waning, new Nasa images have revealed.

El Niño 2015 has already created weather chaos around the world,’ Nasa said.
Over the next few months, forecasters expect the United States to feel its impacts as well.
The latest Jason-2 image bears a striking resemblance to one from December 1997, by Jason-2’s predecessor, the Nasa /Centre National d’Etudes Spatiales (CNES) Topex/Poseidon mission, during the last large El Niño event.

The images show nearly identical, unusually high sea surface heights along the equator in the central and eastern Pacific: the signature of a big and powerful El Niño.

Higher-than-normal sea surface heights are an indication that a thick layer of warm water is present.

El Niños are triggered when the steady, westward-blowing trade winds in the Pacific weaken or even reverse direction, triggering a dramatic warming of the upper ocean in the central and eastern tropical Pacific.

Clouds and storms follow the warm water, pumping heat and moisture high into the overlying atmosphere.
These changes alter jet stream paths and affect storm tracks all over the world.
