Indonesian Beef

July 21, 2017 By Editor

Description given on Youtube:
Jakarta is committed to building its national beef herd as its moves towards reducing its reliance on imports both on the hoof and in a cardboard carton. The ABC’s correspondent Matt Brown has been assessing what impact this policy will have on the Indonesian beef business including those who import cattle from Northern Australia, fatten and process them.

How Grains Domesticated Us, James C. Scott, SOAS, University of London

July 21, 2017 By Editor

Food Studies at SOAS http://www.soas.ac.uk/foodstudies/
This SOAS Food Studies Centre Distinguished Lecture titled “How Grains Domesticated Us” was given by James C. Scott (Sterling Professor of Political Science and Professor of Anthropology and Co-Director of the Agrarian Studies Program, Yale University) on 11 December 2014.

How is it that homo sapiens came, only in the last 5% of its long career on the planet, to live in concentrated heaps of people, grain, and domesticated animals and, later, governed by units we call states?

How were these earliest structured and governed? How did they persist (or perish) and how did they change the landscape and people they controlled? It is surely striking that virtually all classical states were based on grain, including millets. History records no banana, cassava, sago, or sweet potato states. Why are the grassy grain crops—typically barley, rye, wheat, rice, maze, and millets—so closely associated with the earliest states? My guess is that only grains are suited to concentrated production, tax assessment, cadastral surveys, storage, and rationing.

How automotive starting and charging systems work | ACDelco

July 19, 2017 By Editor

Description given on Youtube:
http://www.acdelco.com/
Did you know that your car’s starting and charging system cranks the engine for starting, charges the vehicle battery and provides electric power for engine controls, lights and accessories? This short animation shows how automotive starting and charging systems work.

Don’t forget to have your trusted ACDelco certified technician inspect your starting and charging system components during your next maintenance. For more information, see ACDelco’s Automotive Systems Guide http://www.acdelco.com/auto-systems-guide/

Did you know that the first car with electric starting was the 1912 Cadillac? The starter motor was designed by Charles Kettering one of the founders of DELCO, which later became ACDelco.

The vehicles starting and charging system cranks the engine for starting; Charges the vehicle battery; And provides electrical power for engine controls, lights, and accessories.

Key components of the starting and charging system include:
The Battery which stores the electrical energy. The Starter Motor which cranks the engine. The Alternator which charges the battery and powers the vehicle electrical system. And Battery Cables to connect the battery.

Malfunctions can cause abnormal noises, dim lights, discharged battery, no crank conditions, and may illuminate the battery indicator lamp.

The starting and charging system is a critical part of your vehicle. Malfunctions with the system components can result in a no crank/start condition; cold weather puts an extra strain on the system. Have the system checked periodically. Visit your local ACDelco service center for expert service and quality parts.
