Shifting the safety culture on farm – how Hassad has reduced on-farm injuries

March 6, 2016 By Editor

Description given on Youtube:
The injury rate is now close to zero at ‘Raby Stud’, near Warren in New South Wales, thanks to the attitude that ‘it won’t happen to me’ is simply not good enough to ensure everyone gets home safely to their families every night.

Key to this shift has been a blame free workplace where staff feel more than comfortable to talk about safety, regular ‘tool box’ meetings’ between staff and management, systems to ensure regular checking of workplaces and machinery, safety signage and inductions for new staff and contractors.

According to research conducted by the Primary Industries Health & Safety Partnership (PIHSP), almost 50,000 weeks of work in agriculture and fisheries were lost annually between 2008 and 2012 due to injury.

Ashley Bell is the Farm Manager at ‘Raby Stud’, one of Hassad Australia’s 14 aggregations across Australia. Hassad Australia has provided strong leadership to drive a shift in safety culture across all its operations.

“At Raby Stud we have a set of policies to work by, to keep the place safe. In many cases, our changes haven’t been time consuming or costly, and could be implemented in any farming operation.

“It’s not that hard to change the way you think about safety. You’ve just get in a routine of checking everything before you use it, and we make sure that when staff come forward to say something is wrong, we fix it so no one gets hurt, and so the place can keep running,” Mr Bell said.

How To Use An Electric Chainsaw

March 3, 2016 By Editor

Description given on Youtube:
A tree fell on my house in the recent California rain storm. Another opportunity to use my Remington 16 inch 3.25 horsepower chain saw and do a video review. I prefer an electric chainsaw to a gas-powered one because it can sit for months or years and will be ready to use when you need it. This video shows you how to use an electric chainsaw. If there is a zombie apocalypse and you find yourself defending your home from zombie attacks with a chainsaw, the electric one can be problematic, as you mus protect the power cord, and you must have electricity to use it. In that case, you’d be better off with a gas chainsaw. For what I do, the electric one is low mantenance and works better for me.

Description given on Youtube:
How to use your meter to measure voltage drop in a automotive electrical circuit. I do diagnostic jobs for many repair shops in my area, and one thing I see all the time is the misdiagnosis of circuits and parts ” hung” that do not fix anything all due to improper testing.
